“Hey! Those are my coaches. Give them back!” - ―Emily and Thomas
Emily's New Coaches is the seventeenth episode of the fourth series.
Plot Summary[]
It was a splendid morning on the Island of Sodor. Thomas the Tank Engine was bringing his coaches Annie and Clarabel to Elsbridge for Toby to take. When he got there, a new engine had arrived from the Mainland. Thomas wanted to be first to say hello. The engine was beautiful with shiny paintwork and a gleaming brass dome. “Thomas, meet Emily," said Sir Topham Hatt. “Hello,” said Thomas. “Hello to you,” Emily said back kindly. “Emily, collect your coaches please. You and your Driver must learn the line.” “Yes, Sir,” answered Emily. And she steamed away. Thomas was impressed.
Later, the only coaches Emily's Driver could find were Annie and Clarabel. “These aren't your sort of coaches,” he said. “But I suppose they'll do.” Annie and Clarabel felt confused. “How dare he say we'll do!” Clarabel whisphered to Annie. But Emily didn't listen. She backed onto Annie and Clarabel and puffed carefully away.
Down the line, she enjoyed herself. Annie and Clarabel were very cross. “How dare he say we'll do! How dare he say we'll do!” grumbled the Coaches. Thomas saw Emily coming down the line, pulling Annie and Clarabel. “Hello, Thomas,” Emily called. But Thomas was cross. “Hey! Those are my coaches,” he muttered. “Give them back!” But Emily didn't hear Thomas and she went on her way. Then, Daisy passed and Percy. When Emily whistled hello, the engines didn't whistle back. Emily couldn't understand why they were so unfriendly. She was upset.
Later, Sir Topham Hatt spoke to Thomas. “I want you to go to the Knapford Harbour to pick up new coaches.” “New coaches?” protested Thomas. “But, Sir. . .” “Really useful engines don't argue,” said Sir Topham Hatt sterny. Thomas didn't want new coaches, he wanted Annie and Clarabel back.
When Toby saw Emily arriving with Annie and Clarabel. “Hello,” He said. “You must be a new engine I've heard about. I'm Toby by the way.” He was confused. “Why are you going around pulling Thomas' coaches?” “Thomas?” exclaimed Emily. “So that's why he looked cross. I didn't know these were his coaches. I'll go and apologize.” As Emily left the yard, Annie and Clarabel were glad that she wasn't pulling them any longer.
Meanwhile, Thomas was grumbling along the tracks with a new coaches. “Don't want new coaches! Don't want new coaches!” he chuffed. “I want Annie and Clarabel back, Then Emily will be sorry.”
Later, Emily was still looking for Thomas when a signalman flagged her down. “Toby hasn't cleared his signalbox,” he told Emily's Driver. “Please, go and see what's wrong.” Emily steamed off to the rescue. She could see that Toby had broken down on the crossing. Suddenly, Emily heard a whistle. “It's Thomas!” cried Toby. “Oh no! He's going to crash me!” “I'll save you!” chuffed Emily bravely. She charged towards Toby, pushed him across the tracks as Thomas sped through, just in time. “That was too close,” panted Emily. “Trembling tracks! You saved me!” cried Toby happily. Emily sighed with relief.
Later, Sir Topham Hatt praised her. “Well done, Emily, you were a very brave engine.” “The bravest of all,” chuffed Toby. “It gives me great pleasure to present you with two new coaches. You shall have a new coat of paint. And you shall have a Branch Line all to yourself.” “Thank you, Sir,” replied Emily. "Thomas, I'm sorry I took Annie and Clarabel.” “That's okay,” said Thomas. “and I'm sorry I was so cross.” “Friends!” said Bear happily.
Nowadays, Emily has her first Branch Line. She loves her coaches and being part of Sir Topham Hatt's railway.
