"People would make the same mistake over and over again, even after they apologize.”

―The Governor.

Impatient Crovan is the forty-sixth episode of the sixth series. It is based on the story An Impatient Engine from the Railway Series book Crovan the Private Engine.

Plot[]

Crovan had become impatient towards the engines. Then something happened to him that made him wish he hadn't.

Plot Summary[]

Crovan was cross. Liz had been chosen to collect the Chocolate Bunnies for the Easter Party at Wellsworth, and he wanted to be the engine to be chosen.

That day, after the wedding, Henry was taking on water when Crovan stopped behind him. “Come On!” called Crovan. “I'm a very important engine.” “I'm not finished yet.” huffed Henry. “Pah!” replied Crovan. “I've got no time to wait. Now get out of my way you big watermelon!” Henry felt very offended, but said nothing as he rolled away to let Crovan have a drink instead.

Later, the Governor came back with some news. “There's to be some freight cars that you need to take to Callan Harbor,” he said. “You must take them there.” Crovan was fuming. “I wish I was not wanted. Why can't Emily do it? She loves messing around with freight cars.” “You will do as you are told.” said the Governor sternly.

Crovan banged the freight cars hard when he got to the docks. “I don't believe it.” he thought. “Honestly, nervous some people!” Just then, BoCo rolled up beside him. “Morning, Crovan.” He said. “You'd must be careful with the freight cars, they've been quite troublesome lately.” “Yeah Yeah.” replied Crovan. “No rough riding.” BoCo was not amused. But before he could say anything else, Crovan puffed away importantly.

On the way to the harbor however, the freight cars were shocked at Crovan. BoCo had already handled them very carefully, and now he ruined the mood.

“Well that was just playing rude.” One said. “I agree with you. Like that engine any right to speak to others like that.” “We'll teach him a lesson first.” More laughed. But Crovan didn't hear them. He was too busy trying to get the job done as careful as he could.

At Edward's Station, Henry arrived with his passenger train next to Edward, feeling rather upset. “What's the matter?” He asked. “Crovan was being horrid to me when I was getting some water.” “Take notice of him.” replied Edward. “That will never change for now. I don't know what's got into him. But you are a hard-working engine. Sometimes engines can be so rude to each, but not me.” That made Henry feel better, until Crovan puffed by between the two engines at a very high speed.

“Just look at me go you two!” He boasted to Henry and Edward. ”At least I'm not as slow as a snail.” “He'll probably head for trouble.” Thought Edward.

Throughout the journey, Crovan kept on calling out the other engines to help him until the freight cars had had enough, and even the governor tried to slow down. “Slow down, Crovan!” He shouted. “You're going to cause the accident!” Suddenly, as they approached Maron, the switch pointed to the buffers, the governor tried to put on the brakes, but the freight cars pushed Crovan on and on. The governor jumped clear as they smashed into the buffers. It was a horrible mess, and the governor was very cross. “You dumb engine!” He fumed. “You could've damaged yourself! If it wasn't for your impatience, none of this would've happened.” Crovan whimpered. “I'm so sorry, sir. Please give me another chance.” The Governor shook his head. “Everyone has been given you so many chances to change, Crovan. I don't know what's got into you in the first place. But I'm afraid they're all right, some people in the whole world can't change a bit. They usually make the same mistake over and over again until everyone avoids you completely, even after that person has apologized and promising they'll never do it again.” “If everyone ignores my forgiveness, they'll never be friends with me.” Mourned Crovan in his broken voice. “And then, no one likes me.” “That doesn't mean that everyone likes you, including me, or not.” The Governor told him. “You didn't want to be patient as well. Now don't ever start crying like a baby.” “Whatever.” Said Crovan. “No one likes me cause of my silly behavior in the first place.” “Keep your mouth shut!” Snapped the Governor. “Now I will have to call Sir Topham Hatt.” And so he did when he was about to enjoy the slice of wedding cake he saved from the party. “Crovan was very impatient towards everyone? Well then I'm afraid you'll have to leave him where he is, I'll send to put him back onto the tracks later. Now if you'll excuse me, I'd better get back to eat my cake.” “Goodbye, Crovan.” Said the Governor sternly after that, walking away. “Wait, don't go!” Called Crovan. “You can't just leave me here like this!” But the Governor had already left. Crovan laid there in the ditch. For the rest of the afternoon, he watched as the engines ignored him, scold him, and even made fun of him for his actions. As much as Crovan wanted to apologize so badly. He remembered what the Governor had said. “People would make the same mistake over and over again, even after they apologize.” Crovan slowly began to feel more and more depressed as he laid there, waiting to rest. “Who am I kidding?” He thought. “I'm a very horrid engine! How could I be so dumb not to control my anger? I can't believe the mean governor abandoned me here.”

But that night, while Crovan was fast asleep, he was lifted back onto the tracks by Jerome and Judy, and also he was pushed away by another engines all the way towards Callan shed.

And after being pushed in there, Crovan woke up, right next to the shed was Emily. “Hello, Crovan.” Smiled Emily kindly. “I saw you've taken quite a tumble, so Sir Topham Hatt sent me quickly to fetch Judy and Jerome to help you.” “What?” Wondered Crovan. “But why have you helped me?” “Because, while you may not be the nicest engine sometimes.” Replied Emily. “I know there's still good inside everyone. People who just say otherwise just don't understand what people suffer through in their lives. Crovan sighed. “I wish the world was always nicer to others.” “Me too.” Said Emily. “But at least you have me and I can definitely promise that.” And Crovan managed to smile. He was glad that while the other engines might need some time to actually give him another chance. He was happy that he still has his girlfriend beside him.
