Michael Angelis UK Version[]

  • Michael Angelis: Ivo Hugh loves to puff through the hills on the Island of Sodor. His favourite place is a pretty village high up in the mountains. But in the winter, the mountain village gets very cold, so it's important that the engines deliver coal to the village. The houses must be snug and warm. One morning, Peter Sam was delivering his empty truck to the incline. The winch brings empty trucks up the incline and lowers full trucks down to be delivered to the villagers across the island. Peter Sam was frightened of the incline. It was very high. So Peter Sam shunted his trucks into place and then he backed away quickly.
  • Ivo Hugh: You are such a scaredy engine.
  • Michael Angelis: Laughed Ivo Hugh.
  • Peter Sam: I'm not scared of anything.
  • Michael Angelis: The Troublesome Trucks spotted a chance for a tease. Ivo Hugh thought he was the bravest engine in the world. But then, the winches coupling broke.
  • Ivo Hugh: Oh, no!
  • Michael Angelis: Ivo Hugh steamed away as fast as he could. Ivo Hugh raced right pass Stepney who was waiting on the main line. He switched tracks and the trucks rolled past him. But they were heading straight for his brother Freddie. Freddie whistled loudly to the signalman who changed the points. Soon the Thin controller, Mr. Percival, arrived.
  • Mr. Percival: Well done, Fearless Freddie.
  • Michael Angelis: Mr. Percival said.
  • Mr. Percival: You are a really brave engine.
  • Freddie: Thank you, sir.
  • Michael Angelis: Said Freddie proudly. But Ivo Hugh wasn't happy.
  • Ivo Hugh: I want to be the bravest.
  • Michael Angelis: Huffed Ivo Hugh.
  • Ivo Hugh: I want to show everyone that I'm the bravest engine of all.
  • Michael Angelis: The next day, Ivo Hugh was shunting trucks on to the incline.
  • Ivo Hugh: How can I prove I'm the bravest?
  • Michael Angelis: He huffed to himself. Suddenly, Ivo Hugh had an idea.
  • Ivo Hugh: If I went up the hill of the winch...
  • Michael Angelis: He puffed.
  • Ivo Hugh: ...then everyone will see how brave I am.
  • Michael Angelis: The winch hooked on to Ivo Hugh's trucks coupling. Ivo Hugh was still coupled up. But he didn't tell the workmen. Slowly, Ivo Hugh was pulled up the hill. When Peter Sam and Duncan arrived at the bottom of the incline, they gasped.
  • Peter Sam: Look where Ivo Hugh is!
  • Michael Angelis: Puffed Peter Sam.
  • Duncan: That is the bravest thing to do.
  • Michael Angelis: Chuffed Duncan. Duncan cheered and Peter Sam tooted his whistle. Ivo Hugh felt prouder than ever.
  • Ivo Hugh: Look at me! Look at me!!
  • Michael Angelis: He puffed. At last, Ivo Hugh reached the top of the incline.
  • Ivo Hugh: I'm the bravest engine in all the world!!!
  • Michael Angelis: He called. But Ivo Hugh was too heavy, and the winch broke!
  • Ivo Hugh: WHEEEEE!!!!
  • Michael Angelis: Puffed Ivo Hugh as he raced down the hill. But when he got to the bottom, he couldn't stop! Ivo Hugh raced all the way to the Transfer Yards! He raced past a very surprised Stepney, and straight into a snow. Mr. Percival was very cross.
  • Mr. Percival: Ivo Hugh, you have broken the winch (Michael Angelis: He said sternly.) The mountain village will get no coal today, and it is very cold.
  • Michael Angelis: Ivo Hugh felt very bad.
  • Ivo Hugh: The village won't be snug and warm. (Michael Angelis: Puffed Ivo Hugh sadly.) And it's all my fault.
  • Michael Angelis: Suddenly, Ivo Hugh had an idea.
  • Ivo Hugh: There's only one thing to do. (Michael Angelis: He puffed.) I will have to collect the coal myself.
  • Michael Angelis: When Ivo Hugh arrived at the top of the incline, Peter Sam and Duncan had brought the supplies to repair the winch.
  • Duncan: Are you going to take the trucks down the incline without the winch?
  • Michael Angelis: Asked Duncan excitedly.
  • Peter Sam: That would be really brave.
  • Michael Angelis: Chuffed Peter Sam. Ivo Hugh wanted to show Peter Sam and Duncan how brave he was, but then he thought of the mountain village.
  • Ivo Hugh: No. (Michael Angelis: Said Ivo Hugh firmly.) I'm going to take the coal to the village.
  • Michael Angelis: So he puffed slowly and carefully back down the steep track. No one was there to see him working hard. No one cheered or blew their whistles. But it didn't matter what matter was getting the coal to the village. It was late when Ivo Hugh arrived at the village station. The villagers were very pleased to see Ivo Hugh. And they were pleased to have coal to make their homes snug and warm. They cheered and cheered and cheered. Ivo Hugh was so proud it made his axles tingle.
  • Ivo Hugh: This is much better than showing everyone how brave I am.
  • Michael Angelis: He puffed. And he certainly was.
