The Great Engine Hunt is a 2020 Thomas & Friends movie.

Plot

When P.T. Boomer is annoyed about Thomas and Ashima falling in love, he teams up with Diesel and kidnapps Ashima and takes her to a place in Chicago. Along Thomas's hunt for his love interest, he meets a new friend called Hayley whom decides to help him on his journey around the world in search of Ashima.

  • The storyline of the movie is very similar to Big World! Big Adventures!
  • This is one of the longest movies in Thomas & Friends history, running at 185 minutes long.
  • The composer for this special is Harry Gregson-Williams, instead of Chris Renshaw, just like Thomas and Friends: Revenge of the Scrap-Yard Diesels, but with Thomas Newman.
  • This is third time that The City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra performed the music, when Harry Gregson-Williams composed the music, Pete Anthony conducted the music for this Thomas & Friends movie just like how they did in Thomas and Friends: Revenge of the Scrap-Yard Diesels, but with Thomas Newman composing & conducting the music and in Sodor's Legend of The Lost Treasure, but with Robert & Peter Hartshorne.
  • This special marks the first appearance of Chicago.
  • Kayly Cuoco joins the voice cast.
  • At the end of the movie, after Ashima says that she loves Thomas and says goodbye to him before going home on the ferry.
  • Since Ant & Dec were the only live-action characters, they were both green screened.

Goofs

  • When Thomas starts to leaves Ashima behind with the portal time of 5 seconds, he is coupled to Ashima. But in the next scene, he is uncoupled from her.
  • As Ashima is going through the secret passageway to the Steelworks, her coupling clips through the passage.
  • In the scene where Thomas thinks that Ashima is dead, there is a truck that appears and disappears every second that Thomas is focused in.
  • When Ashima backs up beside Thomas in her berth, her lamp is off. But in the next scene, her lamp is on.
