Narrator: Thomas & Friends: The Narrow Gauge Adventure Begins.
Edward Introduces Thomas to Skarloey[]
A Bad Day for Sir Handel[]
Narrator: A little later Skarloey heard some whistles he never heard before.
Sir Handel: (whistles)
Peter Sam: (whistles)
Skarloey: Oh, that must be the new engines! (Soon enough a blue engine and green roll up in front of the shed next to Skarloey) Hello, there. My name is--
Sir Handel: (scoffs) What a small shed! This won't do at all! We're much too good for this old shack.
Peter Sam: Come on, Sir Handel. I think it's nice. It might not be the best one, but it looks cozy.
Sir Handel: Pfft. Mr. Positive. And what's that rubbish doing there?
Peter Sam: Shhh! Sir Handel, that's Skarloey. I heard he's very famous around here. (to Skarloey) Hello, Skarloey. My name is Peter Sam. And this is my friend Sir Handel. (Sir Handel just scowls making Skarloey unsure) I'm very sorry, Skarloey. Sir Handel is a bit upset. But he is quite friendly.
Skarloey: Uh-huh. I see.
Peter Sam and the Refreshment Lady/Rusty's Arrival[]
Narrator: The next morning, the engines woke up to a strange sound.
(a toot can be heard)
Old Faithful[]
Rusty Helps Peter Sam[]
Duncan's Arrival[]
Narrator: The next day, Rusty was shunting in the yards. When he heard a voice, he'd never heard before.
Duncan: (offfscreen) Excuse me. Do ye know where this "Crovan's Gate" is?
Sir Handel: (offscreen) But this is Crovan's Gate. Where are you from?
Duncan: (offscreen) Och, Scotland. You can never find a better railway than beautiful Scotland.
Rusty: (gasps) The new engine is here.
(he toots excitedly to meet the new engine)
Duncan: (offscreen) It's where the best engines come from.
Sir Handel: Is it really?
Duncan: Aye. I'm really satisfied to be here. I've never been to Sodor before.
Skarloey Returns/Home at Last[]
Rock 'n' Roll[]
(next day came)
Skarloey: You know, Rusty. If I couldn't see all of these beautiful faces and places, I think I was on a different railway. You've definitely done wonder with these rails.
Rusty: Ho-ho. I'm glad you're pleased. Mr. Percival asked us to mend the track so well that you won't know where you were. And we did and you didn't. But... there's still one bad bit. Just before the first station. An engine might come off there, particularly Duncan. He will try to 'Rock 'n' Roll' along the line. (just then Duncan came rolling up) And that's the last thing this railway wants. Hurt passengers.
Duncan: What's that about me? I'm a plain engine and I believe in plain speaking. Speak up and stop whispering in corners.
Rusty: Well, if you ever heard me right, then you must realize about the bad bit of rails along the line.
Duncan: Poo. I know my way about thank you. Never needed a map nor compass. Just use my instincts. And I especially don't need smelly diesels to tell me what to do. G'bye!
(and he left to fetch his coaches leaving Rusty feel hurt)
Skarloey: Don't worry, I'm sure he'll come around.
Narrator: Later Duncan was bringing his coaches to the station where James was already waiting.
(Duncan arrived)
James: Well, it's about time! You were eight minutes late.
Duncan: Och! I know! But it wasn't even my fault! It was that smelly diesel. Rusty tries to teach me how to stay on the rails. And then goes off leaving me to find my own coaches!
James: Oh, you poor, poor engine. I know all about diesels. One crept into our yard and ordered us about. It's a good thing I sent him packing.
Narrator: Duncan was filled with admiration. But what he didn't know was that James was boastful. And sometimes didn't tell the truth.
