Water Towers or Water Columns are elevated structures located throughout Sodor. They contain water to replenish the water supplies of steam engines. They usually consist of a tank on an iron column or scaffold, or sometimes the tank is at ground level or underground, with water being pumped through a pipe.
During winter, sometimes the water in the towers freeze, stopping the engines from getting the water they need.
